LVHIFF is proud to present this special sidebar of one of the most beloved characters in Japanese cinema, Tora-san, who has starred in the longest running film franchise, with 49 movies! These new, remastered 35mm prints were supervised and handpicked for this process by the director Yoji Yamada, himself. In the first volume in the series, Tora-san, an itinerant peddler long estranged from his family, returns home to Shibamata, after many years of wandering. He is reunited with his only sibling, sister Sakura, and interferes with her marriage plans while falling in love with Fuyuko, the daughter of the local Buddhist priest.
